Stone Setting Day

If you’re interested in setting semiprecious stones , sea glass or pottery for that matter then read on and find out how the day went for Katie, Beth, Catherine and Alexia…

The stone setting day at the Jewellery Classroom is suitable for beginners but also those with experience. The day allows for different complexities of design to suit your capability.

The day begins with a discussion of ideas and designs over a cup of coffee.

I had some stone set pieces available to look at and a large selection of semiprecious stones to choose from. You can start with an open mind and be inspired by the stones available or come with a design prepared as Alexia did. Choosing a design and a stone can be one of the more challenging parts of the day!

Beth cut the silver close to the bezel strip and chose to add a beaded ring and a disc with her initial.

Cathy textured her bottom sheet of silver with a leaf imprint using the rolling mill creating a decorative border around the stone. She enjoyed making silver balls for added decoration ( everyone does!).

Why not try setting a stone? Simple or decorative, ring or pendant? Join a stone setting day or weekly class to have a go..

Everyone made a setting using fine silver bezel strip, cutting and soldering it to fit the stone, then soldering the ring of bezel strip onto a piece of silver sheet.

Katie pierced out the bottom sheet of silver to include two leaves which she folded over the carnelian.
